Founder and president, Entrepreneurs for Sustainability
An engineer turned entrepreneur, Holly Harlan has Cleveland seeing green. Her nonprofit organization works to help a wide range of local companies and organizations, including Bialosky and Partners Architects, Alcoa and the Cleveland Metroparks, incorporate sustainability principles into their daily practices. “We are giving people an opportunity to learn more and to take action,” she says. “We encourage them to take the next step.” An average of 180 people come to Harlan’s monthly networking meetings at Great Lakes Brewing Co. to develop and discuss ideas. She also offers an eight-month sustainability program that has a waiting list of interested organizations. With more than 150 member companies and an ever-expanding network of people interested in sustainability, Harlan’s vision has become so popular the organization will soon branch out to Akron, while Canton and Columbus have shown interest as well.
