If the paint has no hazardous chemicals in it (generally, latex paint is not hazardous, but oil-based paints are), remove the lid and let it air-dry in the can. To speed up the process, add kitty litter, sawdust or sand. When it’s dry, remove from can, wrap in newspaper and discard in trash. The can and lid can most likely be recycled. Oil-based paint should be treated as a hazardous household chemical. |
