Five Iron Golf, an indoor golf simulator, is expected to open Downtown on Wednesday — and it's already prepared for Clevelanders to hit the virtual fairway.
It's the latest expansion for the golfing company, which got its start in 2017 when it opened its first location in New York City. After years of expansion, Cleveland is set to be the 20th location in the United States, with two international locations in Singapore and India.
Brendan Heckler, Five Iron’s Midwest Regional Manager, envisions a substantial expansion in Five Iron’s future, with the company's focus not just on golf.
“With each and every new location that we open, we definitely lean a little heavier into being much more of a multifaceted entertainment space as opposed to just an indoor golf simulator company,” Heckler said.
The facility is stacked with various amenities including two bars, two putting greens, shuffleboard and a pool table. Callaway drivers, hybrids and wood irons are also available to customers. The brand-new menu includes food and drinks that are specifically catered to Clevelanders' tastes. The concept takes over about 16,000 square feet in downtown Cleveland.
During the summer months, Five Iron believes that individuals stepping onto the actual green is not competition, but rather an extension of the company.
“We envisioned this a space for golfers to be able to practice, business people getting a couple of swings in before their workday,” said Johnny Arcangelini, assistant manager of Five Iron in Cleveland.
The high-tech features used in the simulator can even track the golfer's statistics on shots. The simulator panders to all kinds of golfers, including beginner or casual golfers, with options for different modes or environments of the user’s choosing. Users can even take lessons or play a game of putt-putt if they so choose.
Rates haven't been posted to the Five Iron Cleveland website yet, but locations in other cities charge $70 per hour during off-peak hours, and $85 per hour during peak hours for simulators — which can accommodate up to six players at a time.
After a year of construction, shortly following the Cincinnati location that opened in May, the business will reside at the ground level of the Euclid Grand apartment building at 1101 Euclid Ave., and is open to all members of the public.
“Our newest tagline is ‘play the way you go on,’” Heckler said. “That’s really what we offer in terms of our facility.”
