After the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wild Card Weekend, the Eagles had a plethora of questions to answer. One of them is the future of six-time All-Pro center Jason Kelce.
Kelce, 36, was widely reported to have told his teammates that this was the end of his career after the game on Monday night. He previously has mulled retirement in the past, so if the Cleveland Heights native hung up the cleats for good it would come as no surprise.
There has been some push back from the elder Kelce brother. He said on his podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts alongside his brother Travis, that the reports are premature.
"I didn’t announce what I was doing on purpose, despite, I guess, what’s been leaked to the media. People can kind of feel body language and stuff. I just don't think you're in a position after a game like that to really make that decision. I just don't," Kelce says on the latest “New Heights” episode. "There's too much emotion in the moment. There's too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision. I'm not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out. I'm really not. It's just something, I think, when it's time to officially announce what's happening in the future, it'll be done in a way that's definitive and pays respect to a lot of people and individuals that have meant a lot to me, what has led to the career I've had. I don't think that it would be respectful or even accurate to be able to do that right after a game like that."
Regardless of whether or not Kelce retires after this season or continues playing, he will find himself enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day.
