Defensive players think they have the correct angle to catch Glenville senior wide receiver Marshon Lattimore only to have his long strides deem basic geometry faulty.
At 6-feet, 185 pounds, Lattimore is the top-ranked high school player in the state and No. 45 on the Rivals.com list of the country's best players. Unlike so many others, he's listed not by position. He's an "athlete."
That's because he can do it all: catch passes, throw touchdowns, return kicks, take handoffs, play defense. He averaged 17.2 yards every time he touched the ball in 2012.
Lattimore has received offers from colleges such as Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State and USC. It's what potential does: It lets us believe in something greater. It's what we've come to expect of Glenville greats such as Pierre Woods, Ted Ginn Jr. and Troy Smith.
"I know who came through here," Lattimore says. "I know what I have to do."
He has already set a good standard, scoring 15 touchdowns four different ways (rushing, receiving, punt return, kickoff return) last season. "I just look to score," he says. "It's just what I do."
