Gaze out the windows of a corner unit apartment at the Residences at 1717 and you get a panoramic view of Lake Erie. Formerly known as the East Ohio Gas building, the complex was transformed into 223 apartments in 2014 by The K&D Group, who manages 2.5 million square feet of commercial space and more than 2,700 apartment units downtown. The 21-story historical glass-walled building maintains its original marble lobby while the apartments have been modernized, with pet-friendly units boasting incredible views, energy efficiency (the building is Silver LEED certified), ceramic tile flooring and stainless-steel appliances.
“You can see the entire city or the lake depending on which side of the building you’re on,” says K&D Group CEO Doug Price.
Other amenities that attract young professionals and empty nesters alike include an attached parking garage, a gym and a central location across the street from the greenspace at Perk Plaza (where residents head to walk their dogs).
“The location’s a huge amenity,” says Price. “At Ninth and Superior you can get to anything very easily.”
FUN FACT: The teller windows where East Ohio Gas customers would pay their bills are still visible in the lobby.
