Want to rock red, white and blue for July 4, but your Uncle Sam costume is at the dry cleaner? Kristyl Fuller, owner of Toe Ink in Chardon, shows us how to decorate your nails to be at your festive best.
All about that base: Create a flag foundation by painting your nails blue before adding detail. “You need a base for the nail,” Fuller says. “It’s easier to just paint the whole nail dark blue for the background.”
Hype lines: Take red and white nail stripers found at any drugstore, and draw horizontal red-and-white stripes from one side of your nail to the other. “But leave the corner open, like on a flag,” Fuller advises.
Star power: On the remaining blue section, dip a dot tool in white polish for the stars. “I don’t fit 50 stars on there, just as many as I can,” Fuller says. If you don’t have a dot tool, no worries. “You can use a No. 2 pencil,” she adds.
