I'm sure there are curly-haired people who love their kinky locks. I am not one of them. I've battled the frizz for most of my life, spending hours with blow dryers, round brushes and straightening irons trying to achieve silky smooth strands.
The results are never like the flowing, celebrity coifs I covet.
I am not alone in my quest for a manageable mane. In July, Do Blow Dry Bar in Orange Village opened with one goal: Give women a polished look. Following a national trend, it forgoes cuts and color to focus on styling.
I headed over to see if anyone could tame my tresses. With five kinds of blowout styles ($35 each) to choose from, stylist Eric Dean and I selected the Do by You option — a customized look to give my hair some movement.
After a relaxing shampoo, a glass of wine and a half-hour watching Dean maneuver a blow-dryer with ease, my do is done. I am amazed at the transformation, as are most clients who make monthly — sometimes even weekly — appointments, says company president Lina Feuerman.
