Hudson's B. Lux Boutique is designed to feel like the closet of your dreams. From the vintage dresser used to display jewelry to the brown wardrobe filled with trendy jeans, this cozy shop at First and Main is a fashion oasis.
"We wanted it to feel like your closet or your own personal dressing room," explains co-owner Lia Kalin, 26. Soft pink cushions on two Fauteuil armchairs and a hot pink wall accentuate the warm, feminine atmosphere. As co-owner Michelle Bryce, also 26, puts it, "We wanted our store to be girly, like us."
The new two-level, lofted boutique is filled with stylish pieces from flowy tops to classic T-shirts to jewelry and shoes that Kalin and Bryce have selected while traveling to trade shows in New York, Las Vegas and Chicago. The boutique caters to every woman whether her style is preppy, bohemian or feminine. "We really want to be a store where anyone of any age and any taste can find something they love," Kalin explains.
She and Bryce also stock their fashions in limited quantities, giving customers the chance to put together a one-of-a kind outfit. "If you buy from us, you're not likely to run into your twin," Bryce says.
B. Lux carries labels such as Kensie Denim, Hazel, Plush and Collective Concepts. Lines such as Miss Me jeans ($88-$98), known for unique washes and stitching details, are hard to keep in stock, says Kalin. "They look great on everybody, and you can spot them from a mile away."
The duo are also fans of Michael Stars tops. These short- and long-sleeved pima cotton T-shirts and tanks have a figure-flattering reputation. Paired with black princess flats with a silver beaded, glittery bow by GC Shoes ($48.50), the look is glamorous yet casual, says Kalin.
That combo sums up the inspiration behind the super-trendy name of the super-girly shop. "It was my dad's idea," Kalin says. "We loved the name Lux and kept saying we wanted our store to be sassy and be fun, so then my dad said, ... Why not be Lux?' "
