Fashion Forward: Scott has always been a fan of creating and making art in various ways, such as working for a graphics art company for 10 years. But while working at the Limited at age 19, she found her true passion for fashion merchandising and shop management. “I wanted to get further into that, but then I got knee-deep into graphics art,” Scott says. “I just let that flourish and then when I came back, now I’m able to kind of use all of those talents in the store.”
Community Inspired: As her shop has grown, one of her goals is to remain rooted in her neighborhood. “It’s just nice to see a wide range of cultures,” she says. “I get women from all ages [in the store] and you get to sit and have conversations while they’re shopping, get to know their life stories and hear about their children.”
Family Matters: Scott, who’s a mother of three and started the business between her 30s and 40s, wanted to curate styles that fit women on-the-go. She even turns to family for inspiration. “My mother also helped me a lot because I really just adore her style,” she says. “She’s 62, I’m 41, so we’re able to get two minds of what women want to wear, so she does a great portion of helping me to pick things that are functional.”
Balancing Act: Scott calls herself a forever learner, because each day and season comes with new challenges such as having to close during the pandemic and making the decision when to open back up, or simply balancing store hours with her personal life. “That has been my main challenge, just always trying to make sure that the hours are proper for the shopper, but that I have plenty of time to spend with my family still,” Scott says.”
