Hospitals are getting into the spa game. We take a look at two local hospitals that are putting their minds behind the whole mind, body and spirit movement.
Exhale The Spa, 997 Healthway Drive, Avon, 440-988-6801
Location: University Hospitals Avon Health Center
Atmosphere: The full-service spa is housed in the fitness center. While the retreat is connected to a gym, it’s open to nonmembers so anyone can book a service. But you won’t feel like you’re in a workout room at all with the warm, modern environment the connected spa provides. “We make it welcoming, relaxing and individualized,” says general manager Brad Calabrese.
No. of services: 38
Most unique service: At the Ashiatsu Oriental Bar, a massage therapist uses suspended bars for support while using soft, clean feet to sweep, swirl and massage muscles. “Because the foot has more mass to it, the therapist can provide a deeper tissue massage to work on knots in muscles,” Calabrese says.
Why go: Tap into innovative massage services, reflexology and reiki — then continue exhaling by using the fitness center’s hot tub or sauna. You can extend your “me time” with a free pass to workout at the fitness center the day of your treatment.
Falling Waters Spa, 5625 Hudson Drive, Hudson, 330-655-8008
Location: Summa Health Wellness Center in Hudson
Atmosphere: Falling Waters is a natural-feeling retreat within the Summa Health Wellness Center. Natural materials — rock, wood, glass, water — and a minimalist design feel uncluttered, giving your mind, body and spirit a chill space to unwind.
No. of services: 43
Most unique service: The postural balancing massage uses soft tissue releases to enhance flexibility and joint movement, along with improving posture. “It literally puts you back into balance,” says spa manager Kim Raimer. “It’s similar to massage but more focused on pressure points.” Think of it as chiropractic for the muscles.
Why go: Falling Waters is a true day spa, allowing guests access to its eucalyptus steam room, regular steam room, dry sauna and whirlpool. Also, the spa only uses organic skin care products. “We truly believe in the pure, organic and natural approach to skin and wellness,” Raimer says.
