Danny Likar aims to be bold, playful and iconic with every intricate accessory he creates. The Cuyahoga Falls metalsmith behind DGerard Studios channels his inner child when it comes to creating his jewelry, wine charms and keychains in an effort to appeal to a diverse audience. “I make a lot of silly things,” says Likar. “I want it to appeal to as many people as it can.” Here are three items we love most.
Am I An Indians Fan Yet Earrings ($22)
As an understated homage to the Cleveland Indians, these earrings started off as an experiment featuring blue and red felt on dangling wire. The recycled felt hardens after Likar soaks them in resin. They are then hole-punched and stacked through a piece of wire. “They’re light and they’re kind of festive,” says Likar.
Ohio Pride Keychain ($10)
This simple yet endearing keychain showcases six Ohio outlines in rainbow colors set on a transparent background. Likar digitally drew and designed the image and then had it laser-cut on acrylic. “My love for Ohio stems from my love of a lot of things that are kind of queer,” says Likar. “I just have always had a huge pride for Ohio.”
Sweet Treats Wine Charms ($25)
This set of candy-themed charms exemplifies Likar’s attention to functionality. The gumdrop, Hershey Kiss, wrapped candy and candy cane designs were digitally drawn then laser-cut on acrylic. Likar handmakes the hooks out of copper wire and powder coats them pink to complement the charms. “Wine charms in general are a new exploration for me,” says Likar. “I’m actually really proud of those.”
