At La Placita, summer tastes like a bright sip of Puerto Rican ice.
The fruity shaved ice dessert is just one of the unique handcrafted treats you can try at the Clark-Fulton festival series, where open-air markets highlight the neighborhood’s rich intersection of Hispanic cultures June 9, July 14 and Aug. 18.
It’s a slice of Cleveland life many still haven’t explored, from the flaky, homemade empanadas and Puerto Rican nachos made with plantains in place of tortillas, to handmade jewelry and paintings by local artists.
Held in the US Bank parking lot on West 25th Street, local vendors and home-based entrepreneurs set up shop alongside musicians, games of dominoes and art installations.
“The goal is to grow businesses within the community,” says Jenice Contreras, executive director for the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Center for Economic Development.
