If sailing off into the sunset has always put wind in your spinnaker, the Foundry and Cleveland Metroparks offer beginner sailing courses June 19 and 26, and July 3 and 10 at Wendy Park. The three-hour classes teach the parts of the boat, ways of the wind and important techniques such as how to tack and jibe. “It’s very exciting to figure out those things,” says Aaron Marcovy, executive director of the Foundry. If you’d rather get your sea legs first, ease in with a family-oriented Try It sailing session June 24. A skipper and crew demonstrate the basics of sailing on a slightly larger boat in this one-day course. “It’s not just going on a boat ride, you actually get some learning out of it,” says Marcovy. 2800 Whiskey Island Drive, Cleveland, clevelandfoundry.org
