Satisfy wanderlust in your own backyard with One World Day Aug. 28 at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. With 29 gardens representing countries such as Albania, Greece and Syria, this multicultural party allows you to be a globe-trotter for a day with ethnic eats such as Middle Eastern kebabs and meze appetizer platters, and authentic performances including a parade of nations with people carrying the flags of the countries in the gardens. “The cultural gardens represent the ethnic backgrounds of Cleveland,” says Erika Puussaar, president of the Estonian Garden and Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation executive board member. “The new generations continue this celebration of their heritage. They can see what the struggle their forefathers went through and the legacy they left for the city of Cleveland.” The cultural gardens commemorate its 100th anniversary this year, and One World Day marks the groundbreaking of the new Centennial Plaza near the center of the gardens. The federation expects the new plaza to bring even more cultures together through concerts and other performances. 759 E. 88th St., Cleveland, 216-220-3075, culturalgardens.org
