School’s out for summer, but the lessons in fun are just getting started. Akron’s Lock 3 Park transforms into a kid-centered arena full of education and excitement with the Akron KidsFest June 15. In partnership with the Akron Children’s Museum and free for kids of all ages, the festival hosts a slew of STEAM-focused activities such as chess tournaments, rocket launchings, junior chef competitions, dance choreography, live musical performances, a giant human foosball court and more. “I wanted to give kids the opportunity to participate in things that they wouldn’t [have] in their backyards, at their home and at their schools,” says Ben Tegel, volunteer and co-organizer. One goal is to guide kids toward a potential career path. “The more great memories kids can have while they grow up, the more likely they will be to challenge themselves and go into fields outside of stuff they just know,” says Tegel. 200 S.
