Euclid Beach Park Day
Whether you spent your childhood riding around the Euclid Beach Park grand carousel or you only know the amusement park from your parents’ colorful stories, there’s something for you at the annual Euclid Beach Park Day. This Saturday, walking into the Cleveland History Center is like walking into the past, complete with old-timey games and old-fashioned treats. But we suggest waiting to indulge in the traditional Euclid Beach frozen custard, Humphrey’s popcorn balls and hot dogs until after you’ve taken a trip on the rocket car or used up your unlimited carousel rides. Free-$10, July 22, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 10825 East Blvd., Cleveland, wrhs.org
Fin Fest
Lake Erie may not be home to any sharks, but the Greater Cleveland Aquarium has plenty. Although attendees can only see the five different species of sharks through glass, they can talk to divers who get closer, touch teeth and skin artifacts, and make shark-inspired crafts. Even better: On specific days of the festival (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday), you’ll have the chance to see a live feed of your new finned friends. And then when you get home you can keep track of them with an online Shark Cam throughout Fin Fest. Free-$19.95 (included with general admission), July 22-30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily, 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland, greaterclevelandaquarium.com
Uncorked Medina Wine Fest
This event may be brand-new, but the wine is perfectly aged. Sample 10 pours from a wide selection of fine wines and craft beers with your ticket. Then take in live music, wander through the vendor marketplace, or watch a live cooking demonstration — all at Medina County Parks’ Buffalo Creek Retreat. $10-100, July 21 from 3-9 p.m., July 22 from 1-9 p.m., 8708 Hubbard Valley Road, Seville, uncorkedmedinawinefest.com
Headlands BeachFest
Watch three master sand sculptors show off their skills at the Headlands BeachFest. During the family sand-building contest, you might have the chance to one-up them. A lot of Saturday’s events take place on land — watching a parade stroll through the beach, flying a kite with the Ohio Society for Elevation of Kites or playing human sand foosball — but bring your suit for the surf too. There’s a kid’s water game or there’s always a refreshing swim through the lake. Free, July 22, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., 9601 Headlands Road, Mentor, headlandsbeachfest.com
Cleveland Triathlon
Cheer on multitalented triathletes as they swim, run and bike past Cleveland City Hall, FirstEnergy Stadium and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Get the best view of the race on the breezy Nuevo Modern Mexican and Tequila Bar patio. The restaurant is serving up pastries and coffee from 8 a.m. until their post-race party finally kicks off after the 11:15 a.m. awards ceremony. Free for spectators, July 23, 5-11:15 a.m., 1000 E. Ninth St., Cleveland, pacificsportsllc.com
