You’ve made crispy mozzarella sticks and healthy French fries, but there are more ways to use your air fryer. Dennis Davis, executive chef at Kindred Spirit, gives us three unexpected foods to air fry next.
Butternut Squash and Brussels Sprouts:
Brussels sprouts are often served lightly fried, rendering the leaves crisp and surprisingly delicate. But butternut squash is not a commonly fried food. Davis suggests rubbing the cut squash with brown sugar and maple syrup before cooking. “The crisp Brussels and the delicately soft and tender squash make the perfect side dish to any protein that you are [eating] on a windy autumn day,” he says.
Apple Pie:
This one takes a bit of work but it’s worth it. Davis uses small pie crusts and diced apples to build mini apple pies, which he cooks in the air fryer. The apples come out with a firm center and soft outside, while the pie crust is seriously good. “Getting it out of the air fryer is enough to make anyone chuckle with every bite,” he says.
Cookies and Doughnuts:
The air fryer is the perfect way to give new life to day-old doughnuts or to turn small snack cakes into pure perfection. “It’s honestly the perfect late-night snack you can make that takes quite literally no effort,” Davis says.
