Out of 7,200 farmers markets, this one was voted among the top 10 markets nationally. "We are the largest farmers market system in the state of Ohio and pretty much the Midwest," says executive director Donita Anderson.
Anderson recommends the 16 varieties of locally dried beans from Alta Mae Farm. "My favorite flavor of beans is called Black Turtle, and I cook them with rice, garlic and onions and serve it as a side with a pork roast with Caribbean seasonings," Anderson says.

"It actually takes place in a school, so we have access to the cafeteria, and people can buy some breakfast, have a seat and then enjoy some music while they shop," says market manager Beth Knorr. Also, the market offers a variety of unique items ranging from bison to hickory syrup.
"I love oatmeal in the winter, so having oats made from a local farmer is just a great way to start the day," Knorr says. "We have some great jams as well, and putting a little dollop of that on your oatmeal is fabulous."Also try blomma cheese offered by Lake Erie Creamery.

Open all year, it is the only enclosed farmers market that operates at a single, permanent site in Northeast Ohio, says market manager Kevin Scheuring. "The structure was built 80 years ago for the purpose of operating year-round." Coit Market also has greenhouse or hoop house products available in the winter, so you can get fresh produce in the off-season.
"Getting fresh local free-range eggs is a big seller, especially in the winter time," Scheuring says. He recommends the eggs from Carousel Farms. "One of our other main products in the winter are apples from Pleasant Valley Farms," Scheuring says.
