Good things come to those who wait. The Diner on Clifton closed two years ago when the lease lapsed on its former location, leaving loyal customers wondering if it would ever reopen. In August, owner Perry Drosos finally gave the beloved diner a second chance when he opened the Dinerbar on Clifton just a block away from its previous spot. Sure, you’ll find a slew of burgers and sandwiches and an all-day breakfast menu highlighting traditional diner fare such as a house-made corned beef hash ($9.95), but you’ll find delightful twists, too. Catch morning favorites such as the sweet and fluffy sweet potato pancakes ($9.95) before 11 a.m. weekdays and before 2 p.m. on the weekends, or lighten up with the ahi tuna poke bowl ($13.95) with shredded carrots, cucumber, avocado, edamame, scallions and black sesame seeds served over rice or greens. There’s even heartier options, such as the risotto balls ($9.95), deep-fried and filled with pesto and melted Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, or the Parmesan crusted cod ($14.95). With a flaky, crisp crust, this pan-sauteed filet is served with melt-in-your-mouth garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach for a filling meal. Don’t skip out without trying a Nutella shake ($5.50) or hitting the dessert case near the center bar, where you’ll find crafty confections such as overstuffed Ho Hos ($9) made by pastry chef Annabella Michele Andricks — if you can wait that long.
