The Cincinnati Bengals have captured the hearts of many Ohioans by making it to Super Bowl LVI against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (Feb. 13, 6:30 p.m.). Even though we have some mixed feelings about our cross-state rivals making it to the Super Bowl, we have absolutely no issue with a themed Super Bowl party. Let’s just hope next year it’s pierogies and polish boys.
Here are a few Cincinnati-inspired food options to bring the energy of the playoffs from the stadium to your home.
Skyline Chili
Ask any Cincinnatian, and you’ll find that Skyline Chili is a staple in the Queen City. Named after the Cincinnati skyline by founder Nicholas Lambrinides, this chain is well known for its cheese coneys ($2.89) and its three-way chili ($8.24). Both items are topped with a seasoned chili sauce and a wallop of cheddar cheese. 5706 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, 440-646-1011; 4127 Bridgewater Pkwy., Stow, 330-940-3929, skylinechili.com
Goetta from the Sleepy Rooster
When German settlers immigrated to Cincinnati in the 19th century, they introduced Ohioans to Goetta (pronounced “get-uh”). At this Chagrin Falls brunch spot, this Cinci-famous dish is made from in-house breakfast sausage that blends the flavors of beef, pork, steel-cut oats, onions and lots of spices. 5210 Chillicothe Road, Suite B, Chagrin Falls, 440-557-5212, thesleepyrooster.com
Graeter’s Ice Cream
Much like Cleveland’s love for Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream, Cincinnati locals take pride in Graeter’s Ice Cream. The Graeter family business was started in 1870 when founder Louis Graeter sold his ice cream on the streets of Cincinnati. With flavors like Boldly Bearcat and Buckeye Blitz chocolate chip, these frozen treats will really put the Brrr in Joe Burrow. Various locations, graeters.com
BrewDog’s Joey Juice
Speaking of the Ohio-born Cincinnati QB, various BrewDog locations throughout Ohio are temporarily renaming the brewery’s famed Elvis Juice as Joey Juice in honor of the big game. This pale ale hosts a plethora of fruity flavors with a slight hoppiness to round out the palate. For every pint sold, BrewDog will donate $1 to The Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund, a charity fighting food insecurity across Southeast Ohio. To top it off, Cincinnati BrewDog is the second-largest location for the chain in the U.S. 1956 Carter Road, Cleveland, 216-367-2494, brewdog.com
