Opera for All: The Barber of Seville Mini-Series
We all love a good miniseries to keep us in suspense. Now there’s a way to support local performers in a new weekend series. As part of their digital initiative to provide the arts virtually to the public, The Cleveland Opera Theater is releasing their virtual performance of The Barber of Seville piece by piece each week through August 30. The show is a modern twist on the famous comedic show by Gioachino Rossini and reimagines the story in a family-friendly and fresh way. Catch the first episode on their Youtube and Facebook pages before the second episode airs this Saturday morning. All day, July 25 - Aug 30, facebook.com/ClevelandOperaTheater
On-Screen Night
Live theater is still going strong, even through a digital alternative. This weekend, catch a special showing of the virtual play, The Group Chat, performed and organized by the group Improbable Players as part of an online auction. The event supports New Directions, an organization that provides treatment and resources for those struggling with substance use. The play will be performed in its entirety through Zoom and will be followed by a Q&A with the regional director of Improbable Players for a discussion about the performance. 6 p.m., July 30 - Aug 2, newdirections.co
