A garden setting, sense of history and intimate gathering spaces sold Corinne and Andrew Wood on The Glidden House for their June wedding reception.
“We were looking for a place for our family and friends to stay on-site while keeping it quaint and intimate — that was the goal,” Corinne says, relating that there are plenty of hotel reception venue options, but The Glidden House’s charm won them over immediately. “We loved that it was an elevated house wedding.”

The Woods recently moved from New York City to Cleveland for Andrew’s fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. They chose to make The Statler home, accustomed to urban living and appreciating the well-appointed landmark, much like how they felt with The Glidden House. Corrine works remotely for Columbia University Medical Center’s innovation lab.
Still in New York while planning the wedding, the couple flew into Cleveland for a weekend and toured a handful of venues. Corinne says of selecting The Glidden House, “I was hoping we could have cocktail hour outdoors, and our families are big with outdoor games, so a cousin made a wood cornhole set for our last name and painted it beautifully, and after cocktail hour, most everyone spent time in the outdoor area.”

The Woods were married earlier in the day at Church of St. Dominic in Shaker Heights, then the bridal party boarded the white Mrs. Trolley to tour the town for photographs before 5 p.m. cocktail hour. Driftwood Catering plated and served chicken, filet, fish and vegan dishes for guests. The venue provided a list of vendors, as well.
A smart strategy: “We were planning a year out, so after we selected The Glidden House, we asked if we could see it set up for a wedding,” says Corinne, adding that they visited during the summer, which gave them a flavor of how their wedding would feel during the season of their big day. “That helped us be more prepared for what to expect.”
