If you find yourself decorating your house with cornucopia centerpieces or placing pumpkins over the mantel, then your nails should be next. Elizabeth Crespo, owner and lead nail tech at Ohio City Nails, shows us how to create a colorful turkey using a few basic nail art tools.
Paint nails with solid white nail polish. Then dip a fine-haired 5 mm brush into red acrylic paint to make a line from the bottom of the nail to the middle, veering left. “You can’t use the brush the polish comes with because it’s too big,” she says. “A nail art brush is the perfect tool.”
Alternating between dark yellows, rosy or light browns, burnt oranges and whatever other colors you desire, fill in the nail with four additional feathers creating a fan-like shape with the 5 mm brush. The feathers don’t have to be exact replicas of each other. “Eyeball it,” she says. “It’s art.”
Using a medium-sized dotter tool, make a brown dot in the center of the feathers. Then use the 5 mm brush to fill in the circle and make a square underneath for the neck. Using a small dotter tool, make two white dots in the center of the brown circle. Once dry, apply black acrylic paint inside the white dots to create eyes.
Dip the 5 mm brush into orange acrylic paint and draw an upside down triangle underneath the eyes for the beak. Swipe on clear polish to seal in the look. “Then allow three to five minutes of drying time and you’re good to go,” says Crespo.
