This year’s 29th annual Jump Back Ball on Feb. 29 is a small step for Playhouse Square and a giant leap for partygoers. Benefiting the Playhouse Square Foundation’s community education and outreach initiatives, the gala's theme is "Jukebox to Boombox," leaping through decades of music with an awards show dress code. Before hitting the red carpet at the State Theatre, Jen Rome, blogger behind Why CLE?, gives us fashion tips.
Kick off your Sunday shoes. You’ll want to make the most of the night by dancing center stage, so Rome suggests bringing an extra pair of shoes and checking them in with your coat at the door, or rocking a pair of flats. Still, you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort. “I know a friend who’s planning to wear platform go-go boots, so there are definitely ways that you can work the theme into your footwear.”
Whip your hair back and forth. Pull off some bold, hair-raising looks by adding volume with hairspray, getting a crimper or keeping it classy with a modern, slicked back look. “It’s a chance to let loose and sort of play in a way you don’t always get to play while going to a gala,” says Rome.
Unleash your wild side. Bright colors will go a long way when deciding your makeup palette for the evening. “You’re going to see some intense makeup looks, especially if you’ve got people dipping into the ’80s, ’90s, even the ’70s, too. You’re going to see some real intense cat eyes and heavy eyeshadow — and lots of sparkle.”
