For more than three years, Tremont residents have slowly watched the former Literary Cafe’s transformation into the Literary Tavern. New owner Ross Valenti, known for D’Agnese’s and Cantine in Broadview Heights, oversaw a complete renovation of the storefront and interior, which included finishing a small kitchen. Since opening in June, the 45-seat spot has been busy, with locals ordering stellar cocktails (the spiced rum Sunset on Literary is a fave) and testing out executive chef Rob Broka’s standout menu. While fine-dining options such as braised lamb lasagna ($15) and bone-in ribeye ($34) make the Lit a great option for date night, small plates such as calamari frites ($10) and veal meatballs ($10) keep it casual. Don’t overlook classics such as the Lit Burger ($10), a towering sandwich of two 4-ounce smash patties topped with sharp American cheese, dijonnaise and pickles, or the muffuletta ($8) with its layers of mortadella, soppressata, porchetta and olive tapenade. With a strong lineup of dishes and cozy decor, the rejuvenated spot proves it was worth the wait.
