Thank you, Columbus. Brassica, the fast-casual Lebanese restaurant, which started in our capital city’s Short North neighborhood, has made its way to Cleveland. And we couldn’t be happier.
Since opening in Shaker Heights’ Van Aken District in April, the spot has become a go-to for those looking for easy and tasty Mediterranean options.
Known for its pita sandwiches ($7.50-$11.50) and salads ($9.50-$13.50) filled with vegetables, falafel, chicken, brisket or glazed lamb bacon, guests then layer on other toppings such as baba ganoush, sweet beets or spicy carrots.
Sauces such as tahini or the restaurant’s special sauce, a garlicky concoction with a little kick, amp up the flavor. We’re fans of the brisket (which tends to sell out early) in a warm pita ($9.50) sliced open. The harissa-rubbed beef is so tender and tasty that you could eat it solo and be satisfied.
But once you add a schmear of creamy hummus, refreshing cucumbers and radishes, crunchy cauliflower and crumbles of salty feta, you’ve got one masterpiece of a sandwich — one that somehow doesn’t fall apart on you even though it’s packed to the gills.
Add a side of fries, which — dare we say it — might be better than the falafel thanks to a crispy exterior and healthy dose of seasoning.
It all adds up to a fulfilling meal that your taste buds will thank you for.
