Just when we thought we’d reached peak taco obsession, Old City Libations proves us wrong by playing to our city’s strong Eastern European roots. The Gordon Square Arts District bar’s clever pierogi tacos ($8 for three) blend nicely with its mix of Bavarian pretzels, pierogies and creative cocktails featuring Old City Soda flavors. “It’s a fusion,” says owner Mike Gulley, of the taco Tuesday special. The uniquely Cleveland versions start with Perla Pierogies lightly deep-fried and sliced open to create the shells. Then they’re stuffed with kielbasa, crunchy coleslaw and sweet barbecue sauce (for a Polish boy, of course) or with any combination of chorizo, black beans, pico de gallo and avocado. “It went gangbusters,” says Gulley. “Right now two big things are pierogies and tacos, and we might be the first one to ever put the two together.” 6706 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, 216-303-9292, oldcitylibations.com
