Mix up your fall wardrobe with these three trending pieces.
With the air turning cool and crisp, fall is the perfect time to toss on your coziest sweater with leggings and still be on point. But this season is also about trying out some of the year's most fashionable looks. From one-shoulder dresses, menswear-inspired looks such as suede boots, and extreme silhouettes (think wide-leg pants), there are plenty of reasons to try something new. "You just have more options," says Haven Style House co-owner Anne Rutter. "Velvet starts to come back. Leather starts to come back. People really start to play with texture in the fall." Make room in your closet for these three items recommended by local shop owners.
The Staple Tunic
Tip: Pair with rolled up jeans and booties.
The season's traditional tunic style is going from flared to columned and is now being slit on the sides for an edgier look. "In the past, a tunic kind of came down to your fingertips," says Katie Coulton, owner of Grey Colt. "This now comes to your knee or oftentimes is longer in the back."

The Wear-Anywhere Jean
Tip: Wear with a structured blazer and a sassy heel.
Switching up the skinny rage, boyfriend-style jeans are coming back with a vengeance. The style is now being stitched in classic denim colors, instead of its previous extreme washes. "It wasn't a basic, core denim that could transition between all seasons," says Haven Style House's Cori Imbrigiotta. "This one is."

The Flannel Dress
Tip: Add fringe booties.
Flannel for fall may not be groundbreaking, but the classic look is swooping in with new colors such as the season's Biscay blue hue. "I've seen a million flannels in my life," says Kim Epprecht, owner of Apricot Lane Boutique. "This is actually a different color combination than the flannels that I've seen."
