8 a.m.
My iPhone alarm goes off. I grab it to see what's happening on Twitter and to check my email. I open up Instagram — there are so many pictures of dogs and food. Hmm. I get up and mix a protein shake. I better not forget to feed my fish. They're probably as hungry as I am.
8:19 a.m.
I arrive at the gym inside the Bingham, where I've lived since 2010. Since I'm not a coffee drinker, this is my kick-start to the day. After I finish with the weights, I decide to go outside for a run. Is 42 degrees too cold to run in shorts? I head over the Detroit-Superior Bridge and then along West 25th Street before making my way back downtown across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge. The view of the sun rising over the city as I run keeps me motivated.
9:45 a.m.
I swing downstairs to Constantino's Market and buy groceries for the next few days. It's nice that I don't even have to walk outside to get there. I go back up to my apartment and cook a quick breakfast of six eggs with oatmeal and fruit. I've got to get some new suit pants hemmed, so I head out to Tom James on Euclid Avenue. I own about a dozen suits and an experienced tailor is the key to making them great. While I'm in the area, I pop in to see Gary at Salon Mandalfino for a quick trim.
11:32 a.m.
I meet up with some friends on their lunch break at Barroco Grill, a small Latin American spot on West Sixth Street known for its arepas. The chicken bowl is my go-to choice — the jerk chicken is unbelievable and has a nice kick to it. I like mixing in the brown rice and lettuce with just a little bit of cheese. It's simple, quick and delicious.
12:33 p.m.
It's time for work. My first stop is at Cleveland's New 102 studios in the Halle Building to fill in for Desiray Cross, even though my normal show is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. I throw on headphones and track a show for the next day.
1:37 p.m.
It's just a short walk from the Halle to the 19 Action News studios at East 12th Street and Chester Avenue. I went to the press screening for Thor: The Dark World earlier in the week, so now it's time to write my review for The Movie Ticket, a weekly movie review segment that airs on Thursday before the movie hits theaters. After that, I narrow down the stories I am going to cover in The Buzz for our afternoon newscasts. I write, research and produce all of the stories and then check in with our editors to make sure everything looks good.
4:16 p.m.
It's almost time to go live. Since we don't have a makeup artist, I have to put on my own makeup. I slap on some foundation and powder to get rid of the shine from the bright TV lights. It's easily my least favorite moment of the day. I check my email between broadcasts and see I have been invited to interview the cast of the new Hunger Games movie in LA. I book my flight.
6:49 p.m.
When the afternoon newscasts are over, I either go out for dinner, a game, charity event or a movie screening. Tonight, I walk over to The Q to watch as much of the Cavs game as possible and grab a burger from B Spot. I am only able to stay until the end of the second quarter, but at least the Cavs are winning when I leave.
8:47 p.m.
I make it back to 19 Action News to prerecord The Buzz morning segments, which air during the 4:30, 5, 6 and 7 a.m. newscasts. We talk about Justin Bieber and his latest concert fiasco. As soon as I finish our last broadcast, I immediately reach for the makeup wipes. I may not be good at putting makeup on, but I'm excellent at removing it.
11:43 p.m.
I get inside my apartment, get out of my suit and put sweats on. I pop in a DVD screener of 12 Years a Slave. As a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, this is probably one of 120 movies I will watch this year. In about a month I will be casting my ballot for the 19th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. Now, where's the popcorn?
