On A Roll: There’s always room in Edelstein’s Orange Village home (and heart) for more animals. As the owner of two Havenese dogs, she had been obsessing over hedgehogs and otters. “In 2013, my daughter was like, ‘What do you want for the holidays?’ I just said I’d love a hedgehog, not knowing if they were legal to get. My daughter showed up for the holidays and she had this teeny tiny little hedgehog. I couldn’t have been more shocked. That started the whole thing.”
Party Animals: Jellybean, Beck and Bianca sure know how to party into the wee hours. “At night they love to go on the wheel. In the morning it looks like they had some drunken party. They put toys in their water bowl, flip over their beds, move things around. They’re pretty much up and partying all night long.”
Star Sightings: Move over Grumpy Cat, these little critters are getting noticed and have had their fair share of celebrity run-ins. “They’ve met actors Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo and Monica Potter, and a photo of Jellybean sitting in coffee mugs appeared on The Today Show in the ‘mugshots’ segment.”
Taste Buds: Hedgehogs are into protein and these three are no exception — they love scrambled eggs, turkey, chicken. But to make sure they’re getting all their nutrients and vitamins, Edelstein also works in some dry cat food. “[Hedgehogs] mostly eat bugs in the wild.”
Insta Happiness: Edelstein likes to dress up Jellybean, Beck and Bianca in sombreros and tiny birthday hats and admits to taking thousands of pictures of the trio. “Hedgehogs make people laugh or happy, or they’re curious, they want to know about it. That’s why I like having an Instagram account for them.”
