Cleveland Garlic Festival
Pack some mints and head to Shaker Square this weekend for a celebration of regional garlic. Thanks to mineral-rich soil, our area is home to more than 300 varieties of the stinky, delicious onion relative. Stock up for home cooking with a slew of local farmers, or take a stroll down Garlic Gourmet Alley to try garlic-forward recipes from great area chefs, including garlic fries or garlic ice cream from Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream. With dozens of vendors on hand, live local music, a beer tent and a cheese tent (because cheese is awesome), this freaky fest is sure to be a fragrant frenzy. Free, Aug. 24 noon-9 p.m., Aug. 25 noon-6 p.m., Shaker Square, 13111 Shaker Square, Cleveland, 216-751-7656, clevelandgarlicfestival.org
Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Indians
Grab some beer-loaded district tickets and cheer on the Tribe in this division contest. This weekend is stacked with great giveaways and promotions, including Friday's $1 hot dog night, fireworks and themed socks, Saturday's Sandy Alomar Jr. bobblehead and Sunday's toy W.B. Mason truck. $15-145, Aug. 23 7:10 p.m., Aug. 24 7:10 p.m., Aug. 25 1:10 p.m., Progressive Field, 2401 Ontario St, Cleveland, mlb.com/indians
