When journalist and podcasting extraordinaire Sylvia Obell sat down with philanthropist, entrepreneur and certified “cool mom” Savannah James for this month’s issue of The Cut,
Obell let us know exactly what the OG sports wifey was wearing: beige waist-length Prada jacket and a black Prada bucket hat stylishly resting on a center-parted lowlight ‘do.
You know how when you read pieces of written work, whether they be books, plays, articles, interviews, you tend to formulate a motion picture to help you sink further into the author’s world?
Well, try as I might, I cannot picture her in this outfit while I follow the conversation between these two lovely ladies. My visuals are different. Obell doesn’t mention what she is wearing at the time, but it makes no difference to me because my brain already has her look set as well, and it’s giving comfy-clean girl; gelled low buns, matching sweats, sitting criss-cross applesauce on the couches, minimal makeup, you get it.
This is girl chat. The pair makes us readers feel like little sisters eagerly waiting for any advice or laughable story to be revealed. James shares her favorite horror movies while spilling skincare routines and DIY methods of getting from point A to point B, all while staying sane. Her answer in a nutshell? Therapy, detox, exercise and not paying any mind to the haters and the creeps in your comments section. Right on.
Her Makeup?
Simple and easily accessible.
I saw Lancôme concealer and Make Up For Ever HD Foundation during my last Sephora visit … yesterday. Fenty lip gloss? Same thing, and also, totally agree with her that they are the bomb-dot-com.
What We Loved?
We loved the Ohio shoutouts, of course! James and her husband, LeBron, are known (not uncommonly) for their strong ties to home base, but getting to hear the impact good ol’ O-H-I-O has on her wardrobe choices
and young love memories to this day was too much for my little heart. That snow day breakfast anecdote had me rethinking my dating standards. The confidence. The spontaneity. Wonderful.
Shop The Fit
Speaking of wardrobe choices, when it comes to the COVID-19-era popularity for urbanwear, we know James’ vote. She gives it two thumbs up. Take that social media, and your push for us all to start rocking
stealth wealth form-fitting pantsuits in 2023. No.
Although Rocawear, Enyce, and Ecko are some of her favorite brands to rep, let me plug some Cleveland staples for those hoping to match the aesthetic. Legend Headwear and iLthy are obvious brands with a die-hard following within the community, and we’ll add the Cleveland-based luxury sneaker and streetwear retailer Xhibition to our list to better round out her three mentions with our three.
Self-Care
Taking some time to check in with yourself, and make sure you are operating at 100% is far from effortless. James notes this. I think the takeaway here is that it’s best to find outlets and ways of upkeep that you personally enjoy, as opposed to going down the laundry list of recommendations social media wellness gurus are swearing by.
For James, this means getting her nails done, and taking the drive there with her favorite song playlists on repeat. With driving being my own personal source of rest and relaxation, I can relate, but if staying home is more your vibe, check out our latest web article regarding mobile beauty salons in Cleveland.
