Old Courthouse
The building at 1 Lakeside Ave. isn’t just a courthouse, it’s a throwback to a different era in Cleveland. That’s why it’s become a popular spot for wedding ceremonies and receptions. “I would say because of the historical ambiance of the courthouse,” says Gina Ware, who’s in charge of event rental for Cuyahoga County. “The marble, the stained glass, the staircase — that’s what most people are attracted to.” Couples can rent the space for $525 per hour (4-hour minimum) with a $500 deposit. That includes security, maintenance and an electrician. Ware is scheduling now for 2018 for the hotspot, which is also available for just photography at $125 an hour. Premier photo spots include the second-floor balcony and the staircase. 1 Lakeside Ave., Cleveland, 216-443-7095, publicworks.cuyahogacounty.us
The Arcade
One of the country’s first indoor shopping centers, this historic site’s $60 million renovation in 2001 solidified it as an iconic Cleveland location and a prime spot for weddings, receptions and photography. The Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade has a variety of wedding packages to suit every need, says marketing manager Angela Flood. “Ceremonies are usually held on the grand staircase on the Euclid side of the building, which is backlit and simply breathtaking,” Flood notes. Best photo spots? The historic bridge in the middle of the Arcade, either of the sweeping staircases or the Euclid rotunda. Photo bookings run $200 an hour. 420 Superior Ave. East, Cleveland, 216-776-4465, cleveland.regency.hyatt.com
Playhouse Square
There are few outdoor locations that match the whimsy and vitality of Playhouse Square for wedding photos. Couples can take advantage of the world’s largest outdoor chandelier or the iconic Playhouse Square retro marquee to commemorate their Cleveland nuptials — and the best part is the price: free. No reservations required, only good weather and a willing photographer. “It’s a dazzling background with the GE chandelier both in daytime and nighttime,” says Cindi Szymanski, senior manager for brand marketing and communication. “It’s very well-known, very special to Cleveland, and I think it makes a great spot for photography.” 1501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 216-771-4444, playhousesquare.org
