Wedding crasher: Hurricane Gustav. The storm didn’t stop the 6 p.m. Key West ceremony, but its outer bands arrived for the reception — guests heard the wind and rain over the music.
How they met: at a car wash in their native Mississippi. Mo, then a rookie with the Utah Jazz, got in the passenger seat of Kesha’s car without introducing himself. “Everyone in the state knew who he was,” she says. “I’d never even heard of him.” He refused to get out, so they went to a nearby Baskin-Robbins while his truck was washed.
What was he thinking? “When I see something I want, I usually get it. She was playing hard to get.”
Proposal: Feb. 10, 2006. Mo popped the question over dessert at a restaurant in Milwaukee, while he was still playing for the Bucks. The waiter served Kesha a heart-shaped tart; inside was a ring on a single rose petal.
The ring: a 5-carat, princess-cut diamond surrounded by 1 1/2 carats of round-cut pink diamonds, all flanked by pave diamonds set in the band.
The dresses: a strapless, ivory Monique Lhuillier gown with a hand-beaded bodice and flowing chiffon skirt for the wedding and a champagne chiffon Jenny Packham gown with crystal-and-bead embellishments at the plunging neckline for the reception.
Special touch: a wagon decorated with flowers and seashells for baby Mason. Kesha’s brother pulled the wagon down the aisle behind Maurice Jr. and Michael, who served as ring-bearers.
First dance: to Usher’s “Here I Stand,” a song Mo selected because the lyrics expressed his feelings for Kesha: “I love you, and I’m never going anywhere.”
Even Hurricane Gustav could not stop Mo and Kesha’s Key West wedding reception. One hundred guests celebrated the union while the wind and rain continued outside.
