We firmly believe that form and function should work together. Sankora Studios’ Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Frank Lamps ($400) are a bright, shining example of that idea, one that also guided the famed architect’s work. “It’s timeless,” Sankora Studios co-owner R.C. Sanford says of Wright’s design ethos. “I think that’s why people still talk about him.” Standing 15 inches tall and made of walnut, cherry, maple or oak, the two or four-sided lamps are all hand-built by Sanford, who does all of the woodworking, and his wife Trisha Sikora, who selects and cuts (along with Sanford) the colored glass inserts. “People get absorbed by the colors of the glass and the patterns of the glass,” Sanford says. Illuminated by an LED bulb, no two lamps are exactly the same, with some featuring different glass and wood color combinations, or varying geometric wooden details on the panels. “They’ve always been our true one-of-a-kind art pieces,” Sanford says. “And we love making them.” sankorastudios.com
