Vu, who works out of Lather A Salon in Rocky River, boasts an impressive Instagram portfolio of gorgeous, intricate designs at @shirleyvunails. Negative space
Not only are the designs minimal and stylish, but as the nails grow, the design stays looking fresh. “Say clients don’t know when they’re able to come back in and get their nails done,” says Vu. “They have a manicure that’s going to give that illusion of fresh nails, even if they’re a month old.”
Sunny yellows and slate grays
OPI’s Illuminate, a buttery yellow, and other sunny shades have been favorites for Vu’s clients. “It’s supposed to send the message of happiness,” she says. Sleek gray shades are another popular choice, representing a much-needed steadiness in pandemic times.
Press-on nails
A popular option when the pandemic first hit, press-on nails are expected to stay relevant this summer. With so many different colors and designs available at low prices, this DIY option keeps you safe and doesn’t break the bank. “I feel like [they’ve] been a huge hit now because there are clients that don’t want to get their nails done or go out because of COVID,” says Vu.
