If you’re like us, loungewear became your fashion go-to last year and there’s no plans of changing things up in 2021. But if you want to improve your sweatpant and sweatshirt style, Hallie Abrams, founder and lead stylist of The Wardrobe Consultant has some tips for all of us.
Incorporate Accessories
Think about the different elements you can work into your look. “Adding some sort of third piece, whether it’s a cardigan, sweater, scarf, blazer or even a piece of jewelry, elevates the entire outfit,” says Abrams. The right blazer can make your loungewear look more professional. However, try not to go overboard. A diamond necklace meant for a cocktail dress may be too much bling. Abrams says layering necklaces made from a more casual material such as leather or brass work well with loungewear.
Wear Luxe Materials
If you’re looking to add new pieces of loungewear into your wardrobe, there’s a couple of things to keep in mind. First, consider switching up the type of material or print. Abrams recommends going with a cashmere loungewear set, which is right on trend for the winter. “They keep you warm and cozy, especially here in Cleveland,” she says. “And because they’re made of cashmere, they feel elegant and slightly elevated.”
Find the Right Pair of Shoes
Another way to step up your loungewear game is through your shoes. It helps to find a balance between practical and presentable. So, if you’re thinking of going out, bunny slippers probably won’t do the trick. However, a slipper that looks sophisticated can pull an outfit together. “It might be a mule that has a shearling lining,” says Abrams. Opt for a slip-on that will get you ready to work while looking dressed to the nines.
